Hardware sites

Tom's Hardware Guide: If you would like to know how a hard drive works, or what to look for when you buy a new motherboard or what all the Setup options in your CMOS mean, then this is the place to go. The wealth of technical information, plus the clear explanations of what everything means make this a must bookmark site. In addition, it is one of the few still standing. Most have been bought out by computer sellers.

Device Drivers and Support

DriverGuide: Still up and running and still providing the best out-of-date drivers anywhere. If you lost a driver for hardware on your Win 98 box, or even worse, Win 95, this is the only place you are likely to find it.

DriversHQ has an excellent tool to help you find missing drivers, however it is no longer free. At last check they wanted $30. They do have a way of allowing you to do a search to make sure they have what you need before you purchase, so it's fair. Will work when others won't.

Dick Perron's Links Dick maintains a list of links to all kinds of hardware, drivers and settings. Some of it is out of date, but tons of it is exactly what you need when you can't find it elsewhere. Ugly site, but the info isn't.
